Privacy Policy
This page explains what information Audrey Walker Books collects when you visit the site or sign up for the reader newsletter, how that information is used, and the choices you have. It is written in plain English on purpose — privacy should be easy to understand.
1. Who We Are
Audrey Walker Books is an independent author brand publishing thriller and mystery fiction. "Audrey Walker" is a pen name. For any question about this policy, your data, or anything else, you can reach us at contact@audreywalkerbooks.com.
2. What This Policy Covers
This policy applies to this website and to any signup flow that links here. It does not cover third-party sites we link to, such as Amazon or Goodreads — those have their own privacy policies, which apply once you click through.
3. Information We Collect
- Email address — when you sign up to receive the free book or the newsletter, you give us your email address. That's the only personal information we ask for.
- Standard server logs — when any browser loads this website, our hosting provider records basic technical details such as your IP address, the page you visited, the time of the visit, and your browser type. This is normal for every website on the internet and helps with security and troubleshooting.
- No analytics, no advertising pixels, no first-party tracking cookies — at the time of writing, this site does not run Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, retargeting tags, or any similar tracking. If that changes, this policy will be updated first.
4. How We Use Your Information
- To deliver the free book you signed up for and to send the reader newsletter you agreed to receive.
- To occasionally tell you about new releases, sales, bonus stories, and other reader perks.
- To keep the site running and reasonably secure.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your email address. We do not share your email with other authors or with marketing partners.
5. Service Providers We Use
Like most independent author websites, this one relies on a small number of trusted service providers to actually function. Each one handles a specific job:
- MailerLite — stores your email address and sends our reader emails. When you sign up through one of the forms on this site, your address is sent directly to MailerLite. They are based in Ireland (EU) and act as our data processor. Their privacy practices are documented at mailerlite.com/legal/privacy-policy.
- Amazon Associates — the "Buy on Amazon" links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and buy a book, Amazon may pay us a small commission at no extra cost to you. Once you click the link, you're on Amazon, and Amazon's own privacy policy applies to anything that happens from that point onward. We don't see what you bought, and we don't get any personal information from Amazon about you.
- Google Fonts — the typography on this site is loaded from Google's font service. This means your browser briefly contacts Google's servers when the page first loads, in order to fetch the font files. No account information is exchanged in this process, but your IP address is briefly visible to Google as part of any web request.
- Our hosting provider — a standard web host serves the pages to your browser and keeps the short-term server logs described in section 3.
6. Cookies and Local Storage
This site does not set first-party cookies for analytics, advertising, or personalisation. The signup forms submit your email directly to MailerLite and do not store anything in your browser to track you across visits.
If you'd like an extra layer of control regardless, every modern browser lets you block cookies, scripts, and third-party requests in its settings.
7. Your Choices
- Unsubscribe at any time. Every newsletter we send has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click removes you from the list.
- Ask to see, correct, or delete your data. Email contact@audreywalkerbooks.com and we'll handle your request — usually within a few days, and always within 30 days.
- Block scripts or fonts in your browser if you'd rather the page didn't contact Google for fonts. The site will still work; it'll just use your system's fallback font.
8. A Note for International Readers (EU, UK, California)
If you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you have rights under the GDPR / UK GDPR, including the right to access your data, correct it, delete it, restrict how it's used, port it elsewhere, and object to processing. If you live in California, you have similar rights under the CCPA and CPRA, including the right to know what we collect and the right to have it deleted.
To exercise any of these rights, email contact@audreywalkerbooks.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority if you feel we haven't handled your request properly.
9. Children
This site and the newsletter are written for adult readers. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a minor has signed up to the newsletter, please email us and we will remove the record.
10. Data Retention
We keep your email address on the newsletter list until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Server logs are kept for a short period — typically days to a few weeks — by our hosting provider, primarily for security purposes.
11. Security
The site is served over HTTPS, which encrypts the connection between your browser and our server. MailerLite holds appropriate security certifications for the storage of your email on their side. No system on the internet is perfectly secure, but we use reasonable measures and keep the data we collect to the bare minimum.
12. Changes to This Policy
If we ever make material changes — for example, if we start using a new analytics tool or change how the newsletter works — we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and mention the change in a newsletter so you know to take another look. The current version of the policy always lives at this address.
